Experience a modern mezcal bar

An intimate mezcal lounge, Mezcalista evokes the spirit of a modern speakeasy. Our cocktail bar was designed by Saladino Design Studios as a catacomb-like space dedicated to the ancient traditions of the revered spirit, mezcal. Guests arrive through the back of Como Como or through a discreet entrance on Miami Beach's Washington Avenue. Here, a large wooden carving of a pre-Hispanic elder greets you, a basket of agave plants balanced on his head. Copper shelves hold beautiful glass bottles of mezcal and tequila. From the foyer, guests proceed past an arched doorway draped in velvet into a seductively lit lounge with walnut banquettes upholstered in leather, carved with figures of eagles.

Behind a bar topped with black stone, a terracotta wall displays illuminated bottles of mezcal. On one side of the lounge, a velvet-draped, stone-walled tasting room provides an intimate setting for private events in Miami Beach. Mezcalista's speakeasy vibe ranges from intimate and relaxing during the week, with mezcal connoisseurs sipping attentively, to fun and exclusive on the weekends when performances from some of the world's top DJ's inspire the occasional late-night dance on the banquettes.

Creators

Developed by the founders of Miami's uber-popular Coyo Taco and 1-800-LUCKY, Alan Drummond, Sven Vogtland, Gaby Chiriboga & Scott Linquist. Executive Chef Scott Linquist — who has traveled to Mexico more than 30 times over the past two decades, researching local recipes, cooking in private homes, guiding culinary trips, and judging at esteemed events — offers dishes based on traditional techniques.

Bar Program

Award-winning mixologist Christian Rubio, whose hospitality experience ranges from Europe and Mexico to Miami, is responsible for many of the specialty cocktails guests will experience at the Moxy South Beach. Rubio is known for deftly combining Mexican herbs, fruits, and spirits to create unique and delicious cocktails. Awarded best cocktail at the past National Cocktail Competition at International Bartender Association among dozens of other recognitions, Christian's diverse experience will brings a one-of-a-kind mixology program to Moxy South Beach.
